Prague Day Trips & Getaways

After you've seen Prague, you'll be happy to learn that the region has much more to offer. Within just a few hours of Prague you'll find many interesting locations suitable for either Prague day trips or enchanting Prague weekend getaways.

Karlstejn Castle

Karlstejn Castle

The royal retreat of King Charles IV, this 14th century castle is a marvel of medieval architecture and art. Only 30 minutes away by train, a trip to Karlstejn makes for an excellent Prague day trip. And if you like golf you're in luck, because one of the Czech Republic's best golf courses is located right behind the castle.
Kutna Hora

Kutna Hora

About an hour outside of Prague is a small town of 20,000 people that was once one of the richest silver mining cities in Europe. But today it's on everybody's must-see list because of the Bone Church. The Sedlec ossuary is home to one of the most surreal exhibits that you're likely to see anywhere - a church decorated with the bones of the dead.
Nelahozeves - Zámek

Nelahozeves - Zámek

Less than an hour from Prague lies Nelahozeves castle, the birthplace of Czech composer Antonín Dvorák. The Antonín Dvorák Memorial (Dvorak's home) can be visited, as well as the Renaissance Nelahozeves castle.
Cesky Krumlov

Cesky Krumlov

Home to the second largest castle in the Czech Republic and a UNESCO world heritage site, the town is treasure trove of architectural styles and medieval museums. At 4 hours travel time from Prague, Cesky Krumlov is probably best seen as an overnight or weekend trip, but plenty of one day tours are available.
Brno

Brno

The Czech Republic's second biggest town, Brno is known for its Spilberk castle, its architecture and for being the capital of the Moravian region. The city provides a good example of a large Czech city without the crowds of tourists. Just outside the city lie all of the attractions of Moravia: vineyards, hiking, chateaus, and caves.
Bratislava

Bratislava

Bratislava is the capital of neighboring Slovakia. It's a great choice for a weekend trip from Prague and as the other half of the old Czechoslovakia, it's good way to experience the diversity of the region. It has a castle and a similar language, but everything is just a little bit different.
